About Me

My name is Eliza Johnson, founder of Mountain Path Counseling.  For centuries, people have explored and discovered the healing and nurturing power of the mountains in and around Asheville, NC.  In 1996, I landed in Asheville and started my own mountain journey.

A licensed counselor (LCMHC, LCAS) since 1998, I have worked in a variety of settings from residential substance abuse treatment, primary care, chronic disease management, outpatient behavioral health and private practice.  My wide ranging experience provides me with a unique perspective on the health and wellness for the individual, family system and the community at large, and I draw on a large network of connections within our community to help us in our work.  I received a Bachelor’s (BA) degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 1993 and a Master’s (MA) degree in Community Counseling with an Addictions focus from Appalachian State University (CACREP accredited) in 1996.

My Approach

Whether you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance use, low self esteem, or any other emotional issue, the first step is to acknowledge that you may need some help. It is courageous to take a step onto your own path towards healing and self discovery.  My approach is to be a guide on your journey as you become more deeply aware of your inner thoughts and feelings and open up new possibilities for exploration and change.

I draw from a wide array of counseling techniques: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Guided imagery, EMDR (Level One Trained), Emotional Freedom Technique to name a few.  My overarching counseling philosophy is person-centered.  I want you to feel connected to and supported in the process as we navigate what comes up for you and find a path to healing and wellness.

Thanks for checking out my website.  If interested, reach out and we’ll do a free 15 minute consultation to see if it feels right for us to work together.  Take a moment, take a breath, take a step on the path.
